Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is currently under immense pressure after the 5-0 home defeat against Liverpool on Sunday. Some reports are suggesting that the Norwegian boss could be sacked as he failed to deliver results despite having some of the best players at his disposal.
Below we have listed the four most likely candidates who can become the next manager at Old Trafford if Solskjaer is dismissed.
1- Antonio Conte
Antonio Conte is regarded as one of the top managers in the world. The Italian has been without a job since leaving Inter Milan at the end of last season.
Conte left the role at San Siro after leading them to the Serie A title in 11 years. He also has the distinction of winning the Premier League title when he was at the helm of affairs at Chelsea.
There is no doubt that he is hugely talented but his volatile nature and record for conflict with previous clubs make him a less appealing candidate.
2- Zinedine Zidane
Like Conte, Zinedine Zidane is also currently unemployed. The 49-year-old departed Real Madrid at the end of last season.
In his two spells at Los Blancos, the French football expert won three Champions Leagues, two La Liga titles and two Supercopa de Espana.
Zidane is also highly qualified but the Red Devils could face competition for securing his signature as Newcastle United and Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be keen on him.
3- Brendan Rodgers
Brendan Rodgers has done an impressive job at Leicester City. The Northern Irish boss led the Foxes to back-to-back fifth place finishes, delivering them Europa League football in his first two full seasons.
Under Rodgers, Leicester also won the FA Cup last season, defeating Chelsea in the final at Wembley. However, it is less certain whether he will be keen to take the United job if Solskjaer is dismissed.
4- Erik ten Hag
Another manager who is linked with the Manchester United job is Erik ten Hag. The Dutch football expert is currently the manager at Ajax. He guided de Godenzonen to two Eredivisie titles after taking charge of the club in December 2017.
Erik ten Hag also has the distinction of leading Ajax to the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2018-19.
Due to his enormous success in Amsterdam, the 51-year-old is regularly linked with some of the biggest clubs in Europe.
