Former Celtic striker Moussa Dembele has reacted to Celtic’s emergence as the Scottish Premiership title winners for the season, mocking Rangers for celebrating like they won the league following last December’s Old Firm win.
Steven Gerrard’s men secured a 2-1 victory at the expense of Neil Lennon’s side at Parkhead in the last game before the winter break, securing their first win in nine years at the ground of their bitter rivals and cutting the gap between them at the top of the Scottish Premiership to two points, with a game in hand.
However, Rangers lost momentum when action resumed in January while Celtic secured 12 wins and a draw in their next 13 games.
The Hoops’ two-point lead at the end of the year was extended to a 13-point lead in a timescale of less than two months, and they were declared league winners this afternoon due to a points-per-game basis.
Rangers had a game in hand and were insistent on finishing the campaign, but that wasn’t deemed possible by the SPFL due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Dembele remains a huge Celtic fan despite being a Lyon player at the moment, and here is how he reacted to the Hoops victory on Twitter:
Thought Rangers won the league last time the way they celebrated on derby day 🤷🏿♂️?! On the brighter note 13pts gap is still not bad compare to 39pts in the Invincible season 🤣🤣😑😑
