Rangers have been dealt a huge blow in their bid to call for an independent investigation into the governing body’s handling of the decision to end the season.
The SPFL earlier conducted a vote among the 42 clubs across the divisions to end the lower leagues, with the option to end the Scottish Premiership also on the cards.
However, Rangers weren’t pleased with the initial results, demanding for an inquiry.
That won’t be happening, though, as only 13 voted in support of the Ibrox outfit’s call for a resolution, with 27 clubs opposing the move while two chose not to vote.
Rangers can still take their case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport or the civil courts if they aren’t pleased with the result of the EGM, and it will be interesting to see what their next decision is.
Celtic are 13 points clear at the top of the table with eight games left, but Rangers have a game in hand and are pushing for the completion of the campaign as they fancy their title chances.
Hoops legend Chris Sutton wasn’t going to let the chance to mock the Light Blues slip away, and he has reacted thus to the outcome of the EGM on Twitter:
Rangers fail to win… once again https://t.co/wHiPj8CXkl

The Scottish Championship, League One and League Two seasons have already ended after a majority voted in support of the SPFL resolution, and it remains to be seen if the top-flight will follow suit.
