Barcelona want to bring Brazilian midfielder Arthur to the club in the summer transfer window.
As per the information gathered by Spanish newspaper SPORT, the 21-year-old will travel to Barcelona this weekend and his trip will only be cancelled if there are any setbacks.
Ernesto Valverde’s side had already agreed a deal with the Brazilian club to sign Arthur earlier in March. The agreement between the two clubs was either to bring the midfielder to Camp Nou in the summer transfer window or next January.
If Barcelona decide to complete Arthur’s signing in the summer transfer window, then they will have to pay 30 million euros plus 9 million euros to Gremio. As per the information gathered by SPORT, the South American club are waiting for a payment from the Spanish giants to terminate Arthur’s operation.
Arthur has been one of the star players for Gremio in this calendar year. Barcelona’s priority have changed and thus, they decided to bring Arthur to the club in the summer instead of January 2019. The two clubs, Barcelona and Gremio have already reached an agreement for the midfielder’s transfer.
If everything goes as per the plan, then Arthur will arrive at Barcelona this weekend. He will sign a four year contract with the Spanish league winners and will have a high recession clause in his contract.
Barcelona legend Andrés Iniesta is Arthur’s idol and the World Cup winner with Spain has already left the club. Arthur is expected to take his position in the squad, but he expressed his disappointment for not having an opportunity to play with the Barcelona legend.
“I’m sad. I started to learn football in a new way, watching Iniesta play with Barca. He was an example to follow for me, someone that from a distance, has become a reference point,” Arthur told SPORT in May.
“On the other hand we have to see that he leaves Barca with his head held high, having brought so many titles to the club. His career has been impressive, I hope everything goes well for him in China.
“That’s why I’m so sad. I hoped to be able to share a dressing room with him. It was a dream to be in the same team, but if God wants, we will meet at a later date, playing or not, and I can give him a hug.”
