Bayern Munich’s highly-rated midfielder Renato Sanches has admitted that he wants to play more regularly, but intends to continue his career at the Allianz Arena.

The Portugal International joined Bayern last summer in an initial €35 million transfer fee but has failed to live up to fans’ expectations. Sanches was handed just nine starts in all competition last season as reports suggest that Carlo Ancelotti is not particularly convinced by the 19-year-old and could be prepared to offload him this summer.

Manchester United, followed by Italian champions Juventus, have been tipped as favorites to sign the young midfield prodigy but Sanches has now claimed that he is not looking to leave Bayern despite a disappointing debut campaign.

After returning from International duty at the European Under-21 Championship, Sanches told Record: “Bayern are a great club. I don’t know but in principle I will stay.

“If I don’t, I won’t be discouraged, but I want to stay and to do my best. I’m going to keep working.  Of course, I need to play more. By playing more, I gain more confidence and I feel better.”

Manchester United missed out on signing Sanches last summer as the Portuguese midfielder instead opted to join Bayern Munich but has since failed to score or provide any assist for the Bavarian club.

The Red Devils, meanwhile, continue their pursuit to sign a defensive-minded midfielder in the transfer market with reports linking Monaco’s versatile Brazilian star Fabinho and Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic with a potential move to Old Trafford this summer.
