Real Madrid striker, Alvaro Morata, has vowed to stay at the club and fight for his place, but speculations on his future are rife.
Morata left Juventus last summer to return to his former club. However, he has failed to shine under Zinedine Zidane, and has found opportunities hard to come by. The Spain international has made 13 appearances in La Liga this season, but seven out of those have come from the bench.
The 24-year-old, however, is not looking for a move in January, as he is only concentrating on cementing his position at Madrid. At the same time, he is in prime physical condition, and understands that he needs regular games under his belt at this stage of his career to reach the next level.
According to reports from Marca, several Premier League clubs are interested in singing him. One of them is Chelsea. Antonio Conte, who knows him very well from his time at Juventus, is an admirer of the player, and would welcome the opportunity to sign him in January.
Chelsea may face strong competition from Arsenal who are also tracking the forward. Morata earns a reported salary of £80k-per-week, so meeting his wage demands won’t be a huge problem for either of the London clubs.
Zidane needed a centre-forward last summer and didn’t hesitate to bring back Morata when the opportunity arose. However, he is seen mainly as a back-up option for Karim Benzema.
Morata finds himself in a strange situation. He wants to make a solid career with the European champions, but understands that Benzema is clearly ahead of him in the pecking order. He is going through the same situation that plagued his career at Madrid three years ago and ultimately led to his exit.
It is good to see that Morata is ready to put up a fight, but he must keep his options open. The striker should consider a move to the Premier League, probably in the summer, if either of Chelsea or Arsenal come calling. Diego Costa could leave Chelsea next summer, and he could be an ideal replacement for him.
