According to the Guardian, Everton have given Manchester City a hands-off warning in regards to Mikel Arteta and Joleon Lescott.
City have been linked with a host of talents around the Premier League, and on that list are Everton pair Arteta and Lescott, who are under contract at Goodison Park until 2012.
Arteta notched a brace in the Toffees’ 3-0 win over Sunderland on Sunday, taking his goal tally to four on the season, to go with five assists. The 26-year old has started all 20 of Everton’s Premier League matches this season.
The 26-year old Lescott has started all but one of Everton’s league matches (and subbed in the other), and along with his consistency and versatility in the back line, Lescott is also known for his goal-scoring abilities, having scored 10 goals last season. Those attributes would make him a great fir in Mark Hughes’ side, where extra scoring options are always welcome, and so is a little defensive consistency in a side that has already allowed 30 goals this season.
Unfortunately for Hughes, Everton aren’t hard up financially and are looking to secure another high finish and another place in Europe, so these are two players that won’t be going anywhere in January.
