According to the Daily Mail, Manchester City are planning on making a £4m bid for Michael Owen next month.
City are going to be in the market for a new striker in January, and while the likes of David Villa have been linked with the club, Mark Hughes might be looking more towards an Owen, Craig Bellamy, or Jermain Defoe when he hits the market.
Owen did recently say that he’s going to delay making a decision on his future until the end of the season, and if he chooses that his future lies away from Newcastle, they’ll lose him for nothing in the summer. So, they could choose to cash in on him in January to avoid that potential outcome.
However, Joe Kinnear would probably laugh off a £4m offer, considering that Bellamy (same age, similar injury concerns, less goals) could fetch at least £10m. I don’t think Newcastle are that desperate for cash that they’ll take that much of a loss on Owen.
