Newcastle United have accepted a bid in the region of £25 million from Liverpool for winger Georginio Wijnaldum, according to Sky Sports News.
The Reds have been strongly linked with the Dutch international over the past couple of days after missing out on Udinese’s Piotr Zieliński.
Wijnaldum scored 11 goals in 38 Premier League appearances in his debut season with Newcastle but was unable to save them from relegation.
The 25-year-old is capable of playing as both a left winger and number 10 where he split time in both positions under Steve McClaren and later Rafa Benítez last season.
With the club falling into the second tier of English football it was almost-certain that they would lose their star.
Provided the transfer goes ahead, Georginio Wijnaldum will become Liverpool’s fifth summer signing, after Joël Matip, Loris Karius, Sadio Mané and yesterday’s arrival of Ragnar Klavan.
The midfielder offers good dribbling ability and is both capable of scoring and creating opportunities for his teammates.
Chris Bascombe, journalist from the Telegraph has also Tweeted this morning that Liverpool have agreed a £25 million fee with Newcastle:
