Barcelona have agreed a deal with German outfit Hamburg for the highly talented Croatian winger Alen Halilovic.
The Catalan giants will receive a fee of 5 million Euros for the young winger and have an option to buy him back for the next two seasons. The Croatian will sign a five year contract with the Bundesliga outfit.
Halilovic signed for Barcelona in 2014 from Dinamo Zagreb, but the young winger has spent most of his time playing for the B side and on loan at Sporting Gijon.
A couple of seasons ago, Halilovic was regarded as one of the finest young talents in European football. The former Zagreb winger was even compared to Lionel Messi.
The Croatian impressed with Gijon last season, but is unlikely to get any first team opportunities under Luis Enrique and is now ready to kick-start his stagnating career with a move to Hamburg.
The transfer makes sense for all parties involved. Hamburg have got themselves a player with world class potential and the winger can now develop with regular football away from the limelight and with less pressure. Furthermore, if he manages to develop as expected, Barcelona can always buy him back.
The Spanish champions can re-sign the player for 10 million Euros next season and 12.5 million Euros the season after.
Two months ago the Spanish media reported that the player is a target for Manchester United and the Old Trafford outfit have enquired for him.
