Recently there were two Exclusive reports published in the UK media about Manchester United’s interest in Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang that created quite a buzz in the social media among the Red Devils fans.
First, it was Daily Mail.
On 13th Feb, Rob Draper of the Mail notes:
“Manchester United are closing in on the £70million purchase of Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this summer.
Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward revealed this week to United shareholders that the club has cash reserves of £121.6m and indicated there will be ‘star signings’ in the summer.”
Star names such as Robert Lewandowski, Neymar and Gareth Bale have also been cited. But Aubameyang is a more-likely proposition for United.”
It was followed by John Cross’s article on Daily Mirror on 15th Feb, 2016. Cross writes:
“Manchester United are ready to break the bank to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – and make him one of the biggest stars in the world.
United are ready to pay in excess of £60m, give him a £200,000-a-week contract and the promise of making him a global superstar.”
We were expecting a report, another Exclusive, where a fee between £60-70m would be quoted. French website Le 10 Sport has an update on the story.
They have used their ‘own source’ to get more details on what is going on behind the scenes. So, credit goes to them. Whether it is true or false, we will never know. In any case, most of transfer stories are BS.
Le 10 claims that ‘Aubameyang to Manchester United’ is ‘clearly’ an option.

They ask this question – Why this rumour / speculation should be taken seriously?
The reason being there have been few meetings held between the player’s representatives and Manchester United in recent weeks. United have made their intentions clear that they want to sign the striker, but at the same time understand that Dortmund aren’t willing to sell and it would require “a very large sum” to prise him away.
Fair enough. That means United should bid more than £70m now to sign the Gabon striker. What are you waiting for, Ed?
