Will Liverpool sign any player on transfer deadline day?
According to reports in Spain, Liverpool are favourites to sign Real Madrid winger Denis Cheryshev on loan for the rest of the season.
Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane confirmed in his post-match press conference that Cheryshev could leave the club on Monday.
“We’ll see tomorrow but yes, Cheryshev could leave. He’s a great player but he needs to be playing regularly. The most important thing for him is that he gets minutes. He is a hard-working player and he needs to be building up playing time. I wish him the best. If he has the chance to leave, I’d be delighted for him. We’ll see what happens tomorrow”, said Zidane after Sunday’s 6-0 win over Espanyol, as quoted by AS.
Any possibility of him moving out on loan to Villarreal has already been ruled out, as club president Fernando Roig confirmed a few days ago.
As it stands, the Russian international is likely to play in the Premier League for the rest of the season.
Several top Premier League clubs like Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea, have had shown an interest in signing the 25-year-old winger earlier this season, but it seems that Liverpool are closest to landing the player. The Reds were heavily interested in signing him last summer, but then Real Madrid manager Rafael Benitez had blocked any potential move.
Cheryshev has only managed 117 minutes of playing time this season, and he is considered surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu. His current contract with Madrid is due to expire on 30 June 2017, and he will be allowed to leave on loan ahead of a potential sale this summer.
La Liga giants Sevilla also reportedly want him, and it remains to be seen whether Liverpool can wrap up his signing before Monday night.
