Holland winger Memphis Depay has explained that it is difficult for him to accept being on the bench for Manchester United.
The former PSV player joined Manchester United for a fee of £25m in the summer and has struggled to fit in at Old Trafford.
Not only has he struggled to score goals but the PSV star has failed to adapt to the pace of Premier League as well.
Despite splashing the cash on him in the summer, Van Gaal has recently stated that his side needs a quality wide forward.
The manager’s comment will have come as a disappointment to the Holland international who could fall further down the pecking order if another wide forward is signed.
On the flip side, it could also be the manager’s ploy to get the best out of Depay and motivate him to fight for his future at the club.
The Dutch winger has been in and out of the first eleven due to his lack of form over the last few weeks.
“Of course it’s difficult when you’re on the bench,” he told.
“But it’s going better right now and it’s also going better on the training pitch.
“So if I get my chance to play, I will take it.”
Manchester United have been linked with the likes of Riyad Mahrez and Sadio Mane from Leicester and Southampton respectively.
Memphis Depay will be hoping to get more chances to prove his worth and it is high time that the Dutchman grabs the opportunity. At a club like Manchester United, second chances do not come often.
