Anthony Martial became the world’s most expensive teenager when he signed for Manchester United from Monaco, in a deal worth £36 million (the fee could be raised up to £58 million). Although fans were quite skeptical about Martial signing for Manchester United, professional players had other opinions. Eric Cantona called Martial “France’s biggest talent” and stated that in three years he will be worth £100 million. Thiago Silva stated, “He really reminds me of Thierry Henry. He has his (Henry’s) technique, his physique, his reading of the game.”

Anthony Martial proved critics wrong in his first two Premier League games, scoring three goals. Martial made his Manchester United debut when he came on as a substitute in the 65th minute against Liverpool. It took Martial just 21 minutes to get his name on the score sheet after an amazing run through the Liverpool defense. Martial had all eyes turned toward him as fans wondered if he really was the “wonder kid” everyone said he would be.

Martial had a huge task ahead of him to continue to prove his talent to Manchester United fans. He made his first start for the club as the lone striker against Southampton. United went down a goal early in the game, but it was Martial who inspired a comeback with goals in the 34th and 50th minutes to turn the game on its head and give Manchester United the lead early in the second half. Juan Mata gave Manchester United a third goal before Pelle scored his second goal of the game to cap Martial’s first full game for the red devils.

Although Anthony Martial had a bright start to his Premier League career, he still has to prove his consistency for Manchester United. He has a chance to do just that next week in Manchester United’s home match against Sunderland. Sunderland are currently last in the Premier League, so this is a great opportunity for Martial to continue to score goals, gain confidence, and prove his talent to the world.
