Is everything right at Manchester United? If reports from the Times are to be believed, it certainly appears that there is a lack of harmony behind closed doors at the Old Trafford side.
It wouldn’t be the right time for such claims to come out in the media before the massive game against Liverpool this coming weekend, but the Times claim that a group of senior United players confronted manager Louis Van Gaal over his training methods earlier this season.
The players believe that Van Gaal’s training methods are stifling and that they aren’t able to express themselves more freely. United have endured a tough start to the season having 7 points from 4 games. having scored just 3 goals in the process, the Red Devils have failed to hit the back of their opposition net a number of times throughout.
The Times also reports that several weeks ago, the senior players raised complaints about a lack of creativity and that training orders have become inflexible which are hampering performances on the field. The confrontation however did not prompt any immediate change going into the international break.
It is however believed that Van Gaal believes his side have made a solid start and it is going to get better with time. United currently sit fifth in the standings having already fallen behind to their neighbours Manchester City by 5 points who have a 100% record going into their weekend’s encounter against Crystal Palace.
It is believed that some United players are yet to suit under Van Gaal’s methods and there have been growing noised on how David De Gea has been treated. The Spaniard who has not been selected to start a game this campaign and his deadline day move to Real Madrid fell through thanks to delay in paperwork.
De Gea however has admitted that he is now happy to return to Old Trafford after the international break. The 24 year old will now be assessed in training by Van Gaal before the Dutchman decides if he is willing to start the goalkeeper against Liverpool this weekend.
