Manchester United forward Robin Van Persie stated that the Red Devils are likely to go on another spending spree this summer.
“United spent £200 million on players last year and they are going to spend another £200 million this summer so we will have a team that can compete for the title,” said the former Arsenal man.
The Old Trafford outfit have done well to get back into the Champions League this season and will be looking to challenge for major honours next season. Wayne Rooney stated earlier that the club is ready to compete on all fronts next season and Van Gaal is keen to turn them into title contenders.
United have already begun their business in impressive fashion with the signing of Dutch international Memphis Depay. The former PSV attacker joined the Red Devils for a fee of 25 million.
Van Gaal’s side have been linked with the likes of Benzema, Gundogan, Vidal and Gareth Bale. It is believed that the Dutchman is keen to sign a star striker this summer and Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema could be priority.
The Old Trafford outfit were keen on Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette, but the Frenchman is thought to be edging closer to PSG.
With thee kind of players being linked to United, Van Persie’s claims of United breaking the bank, makes perfect sense.
Commercially one of the better placed clubs in world football, United are set to flex their financial muscle once again and try to reclaim their rightful place towards the top end of the table.
Meanwhile, Van Persie looks set to leave the Old Trafford outfit this summer with a move to Serie A, very much on the cards. Injuries prevented him from contributing at his best last season and this season, Van Gaal seems keen to replace him with a younger alternative.
“It is my ambition to play as many games as possible. I feel fitter than ever,” Van Persie added.
“And I know that the more games I play, the more it will help me prepare for the European Championships [in France] next summer.
“I will take everything into consideration when I decide on my future and I know I have to be realistic about the situation”, he said.
