Manchester United target Memphis Depay is more or less resigned to leave PSV Eindhoven at the end of the season. After the Dutch side’s manager Phillip Cocu had confirmed that the player is likely to leave in coming summer, the club’s director Toon Gerbrands has also echoed similar thoughts.
The 21 year old became the youngest player to score a goal in World Cup history was also linked with United last summer but any sort of deal failed to materialize.
In a report published by Manchester Evening News, Gerbrands was quoted saying, “Tottenham were willing to offer €20m for Depay. We decided to keep hold of him. But he has the option to leave after this season”.
“I think these two players (including midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum) are very attractive to a lot of clubs in Europe. So far, no one has come forward with an offer but I expect we will come under great pressure.”
It is believed that United manager Louis Van Gaal who brought Depay into the Netherlands squad is regarded as a father-figure by the PSV forward. Thus it would be an enticing prospect for the player to reunite with Van Gaal at United next season.
