Manchester United are confident they can tie down the best years of David de Gea at the club and are pretty relaxed about the Spaniard’s contract, which is due to expire at the end of next season.
The Spaniard has been in outstanding form this season, and his heroic performance in United’s 3-0 win over Liverpool landed him widespread acclaim.
According to David McDonnell of The Mirror, De Gea will be handed a new £30m deal, while United chiefs are set to more than double his wages to £120,000-per-week. The Spain international will also be given a five year deal before Christmas.
De Gea had a shaky start to his United career since he joined in the summer of 2011 from Atletico Madrid for a reported fee of £17.8m. He worked up on his fitness and adapted slowly to the pace of the league, and now, he is being considered as one of the best in the league and in Europe.
His plethora of scintillating performances didn’t go unnoticed as he was rightly selected by Vicente del Bosque in Spain’s recent international matches.
Worrying part is, European champions Real Madrid have also set their sight on signing up the 24-year-old, who is seen by the Spanish press as a natural replacement of club legend Iker Casillas.
Manchester United are also looking to sign former Barcelona goal keeper Victor Valdes, who has been training with the first team squad at United’s Carrington ground. The Spaniard hasn’t fully recovered yet from his knee injury, but several media outlets are claiming that he could become United’s first signing in January.
