It’s that time of the year again! I wasn’t talking about the international break, now that would be rather depressing. What’s not depressing is, I am glad to have my coping mechanism back. Yes, I was referring to Football Manager 15. The latest version of the game was released earlier this month and has gathered impressive reviews from everywhere.
Now before you navigate away from this article, let me assure you this is far from another typical review of the game. You can find a lot of that elsewhere. Here at Soccerlens, we decided to bring you some of potential world class talents that you can get in game, for a considerably low expense. While it is always entertaining to have Cristiano Ronaldo bomb down the flanks and score 50 goals a season for you, I am sure it is more fascinating to develop a young player like Max Meyer and get the same results.
This article will give you a lowdown on those options and list a few amazing Football Manager 2015 transfers: value for money signings that are there to be had in the revolutionary FM 2015 edition.
Goalkeepers
Following the release of the BETA version, there were several complaints regarding the profligacy of goalkeepers in the game, and how they cost the team valuable points. However, Sports Interactive seem to have recognized the problem and the keepers look a lot better than they did, before the actual release.
The first step to building an empire in the game is to get a reliable keeper in between the sticks, someone young and talented, who can be there for a long time. My choices for two very impressive goalkeeping talents in the game are from Udinese. Simone Scuffet and Alex Meret are extremely young and very impressive for their age. Both keepers have impressive mental attributes, determination, reflex and positioning and shouldn’t cost you more than €7 million combined.
Defenders
Every successful team is built on a rock solid back four and good defenders are not easy to come by, these days (ask Liverpool). Doria, Balanta and Umtiti are picks for some amazing centre backs. All three players are quick, strong and have excellent aerial abilities. High levels of composure and concentration make them potential superstars in the game and are a must have for me. All three centre backs should cost you an average of €7 million each.
Midfielders
Now this is the most important position for me and I invest a lot of time and resources trying to get the best possible talents out there, who can marshal my midfield for years to come. Lucas Romero (Velez), Youri Tielemans (Anderlecht) and Sergi Samper (Barcelona) are three obvious world class talents with a cheap release clause within the game. If you have €25 million to spend, bag these three without any second thoughts and you are sorted with three world class central midfielders, for a good period of 10 years. Romero is already quite mature for his age and dominates the midfield quite impressively for me, even against the likes of Real Madrid.
As far as attacking midfielders are concerned, my recommendations are Robert and Talisca from Brazil. A little heads up though, Brazilian clubs don’t always sell cheap.
Attackers
Top class forwards don’t come cheap. However, one of the great things in Football Manager 15 is some of the top class attacking talents have release clauses and therefore it is easy to get them for a reasonable price.
If you have a handsome kitty to invest in an attack, I would highly recommend you to trigger the release clauses of Alcacer (Valencia), Munir (Barcelona) and Malcom (Nautico). All three could be had for a combined price of €46 million, with Munir being the cheapest at €12 million.
All three are very good forwards with different specialties. However, quality finishing is common in all three forwards. You can expect good dribbling skills and acceleration from Munir and Malcom, whereas Alcacer is more of a classic number nine with high work rate and quality movement that opens up spaces.
While all of these players are potential world class and have been extremely good for me, it is important to remember that you need to use them in their natural roles in a familiar system, to get the very best out of them.
