New Crystal Palace manager Neil Warnock has confirmed the club is in talks with Manchester United in signing Wilfried Zaha on a season-long loan.
The winger was Sir Alex Ferguson’s last signing as United agreed a deal with the Eagles for Zaha in January 2013. He continued with Palace till the end of that season and Ferguson announced his retirement later that year.
Last season, Zaha saw his appearances being limited and was loaned to Cardiff City in the second half of the season. However, the former Palace star failed to impress during his time in Wales and is now set to rejoin Warnock’s side on-loan.
Earlier we reported the deal is close and Warnock remains optimistic a deal can be struck with United for taking Zaha on-loan.
“Yes. I did speak to him last night. I had half hour last night telling him why I want him to come back and I’m optimistic we are going to do it today,” Warnock told Talksport.
“When you get the chance, you can’t turn down Manchester United but there are so many big players there and sometimes you get a bit lost.”
“He is still developing, Wilfried, and he has got so much talent. When you are a wide player, or a forward, you need to feel loved.”
“I’ve heard it said about his attitude, but I’ve always thought his attitude has been spot on, so I’m looking forward to working with him,” the new Palace manager concluded.
It is believed that Zaha is not included in United manager Louis van Gaal’s plans at Old Trafford as the Dutchman looks to build a new squad for the new campaign.
