Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva’s Anfield future in grave danger after the Brazilian was left out of the squad against Manchester City.

The 27-year-old midfielder, who was signed by Rafael Benitez, started against Southampton in the opening match, but was left out of the squad against City.

Lucas, who has made over 240 appearances for the Reds since joining the club in 2007, has been heavily linked with a move to Napoli.

At the start of last summer, Napoli tried to sign him on loan but so far this summer there hasn’t been any concrete offer yet.

Napoli are thought to be interested in signing Fellaini from Manchester United and Lucas is only kept as an alternative option.

According to Liverpool Echo, Liverpool will only allow him to leave if they receive a suitable permanent cash offer before the transfer deadline day.

Likewise, Daniel Agger’s future at the club is uncertain as well and the vice-captain of the club is concerned by that fact.

The Denmark international hasn’t featured for Brendan Rodgers’s team this season due to a knee injury suffered on the club’s pre-season tour of the United States and there is a genuine chance that he might drop down the pecking orders at the club behind Dejan Lovren and Mamadou Sakho.

“The future is complicated,” the defender told Jyllands-Posten.

“There are a few things that has to be sorted and we have to take it from there. I actually don’t know what will happen. It is a bit up to Liverpool.

“I have had niggling injuries at the wrong times and I have to say that it is difficult to change the team when it is winning. I am not frustrated by that. I am frustrated the way it happened and the way it was handled.”

It remains to be seen whether Liverpool can find any potential buyers for them before the end of the summer transfer window.
