Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers turns his attention towards bolstering the defence, after completing the £25m transfer of England international Adam Lallana from Southampton yesterday.
While a centre-back is a top priority for the Reds, Rodgers is equally keen to sign a good left-back at the same time. Liverpool were primarily interested in Sevilla’s highly rated youngster Alberto Moreno but the deal seems to have hit a snag, after the Reds were left frustrated with the doughty refusal from the Andalusian club to lower their £20m asking price for the Spaniard.
Argentina left back Marcos Rojo has been linked with Liverpool in recent months, with reports even claiming the Reds are willing to pay up to €20m to secure his services, but the clamour is only coming from the Portuguese press at the moment.
Liverpool have now shifted their attention to Ryan Bertrand, who represents superior value to both Moreno and Rojo. Chelsea value him at £8m and are willing to let him join the Anfield club in the summer.
Rodgers is thought to be a keen admirer of his talents, having worked with him at Chelsea’s academy and even wanted to sign him last January on loan, but Jose Mourinho ruled against him joining the Merseyside outfit.
