Manchester United are ready to pay a whopping €70m to acquire the services of Paris St Germain striker Edinson Cavani in the summer, according to Italian newspaper Corriere Dello Sport. The story has also been relayed in Spanish paper AS.
Cavani moved to PSG last season from Italian side Napoli for €63m but it is believed that the Uruguayan is seemingly unhappy at the Parc De Princes having to play in a more wider role to accommodate Zlatan Ibrahimovic as the central central striker under manager Laurent Blanc.
The 27 year old who will play a crucial role for his country in the World Cup scored 20 goals and grabbed a couple of assists in 38 appearances for the Nouveau Riche French side this campaign.
It is believed that new Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal is desperate to get the Red Devils back on track after a disastrous 2013-14 season under David Moyes. A lack of Champions League action might prove to be a stumbling block but United are believed to be taking advantage of Cavani’s relationship with Blanc which has never really been smooth.
The Red Devils might also offer talisman Wayne Rooney to the French side to reduce the asking price for the Uruguayan hitman. Cavani has a contract with PSG till 2018 but with the Financial Fair Play set to be effective from next season, the French Champions would need cash to land the £60m transfer target Paul Pogba from Juventus after securing a £48m move for Brazilian defender David Luiz from Chelsea.
