Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino has made it clear that he wants to keep managing in the Premier League, but the Argentine has not committed his future to Southampton.
Speaking to talkSPORT, the Southampton boss refused to exclude the possibility of him leaving the club, but wants to put all talk on hold for the remainder of the current campaign,
“At the end of the season I will be speaking with the club regarding a new contract. Right now all possibilities are open. In football I am accustomed to living with these rumours, I have lived with them all my life. I am calm.”
“I am focussed on my job which is to get as many points as we can from the last five games. I don’t talk about rumours. I have one more year left on my contract and am focussed on my job. Is my future in England? Yes, yes, yes. I would like to be in the Premier League, it is the best in the world and I would like to be here for many years to come.”
Pochettino’s rise to prominence in the Premier League has been nothing short of spectacular after taking up from former manager Nigel Adkins in January 2013. The Saints have embodied a pleasing attacking style football under the Argentine, rubbing shoulders with the giants in England’s top tier football and are currently 8th in the Premier League standings.
But the 42 year old’s future on the south cost has been thrown into doubt ever since former chairman Nicola Cortese left the club in January. Reports claimed that Cortese was constantly at loggerheads with club owner Katharina Liebherr over the demands of running the club.
Pochettino is attracting interest from all over Europe, and it is believed that Tottenham are after his signature in the summer. Spurs are already looking for Tim Sherwood’s replacement, with Dutch legend Louis Van Gaal being the favourite to take charge at White Hart Lane.
The ever-reliable talkSPORT have however reported that the 62 year old Van Gaal is willing to wait for the Manchester United job, with David Moyes under severe scrutiny at Old Trafford following a dismal campaign.
Pochettino has however, looked to quell all talk of his departure until the end of the season.
