Rodgers rejects talks of fitness issue

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has held talks with his medical staff to address the problem of his team’s inability to maintain the same level of performance for the full ninety minutes.

The Reds dropped two points at the Liberty Stadium against Swansea City and the performance in the second half raised few questions. In fact, Liverpool’s performance dropped against Aston Villa and Manchester United too in the second half, and while it could be down to tactical reasons, many felt fitness problems could be the main reasons for that.

“Funnily enough we have sat down this week and looked at that,” Rodgers said as quoted in The Times. “For me it has been mostly in the last two games.

“We intentionally dropped our lines a bit deeper against Aston Villa because of their pace, and that was fine.

“Against Manchester United we dropped too deep, too quickly. Even though we looked comfortable that was not the type of game we want to play

“And against Swansea we were very good in the first half but were not how I expected us to be in the second half.”

It has to be noted that Liverpool have shown great resilience against Aston Villa and Manchester United in the second half, after taking early leads in both matches, and took six points from those two games.

Liverpool possibly had intentionally dropped their tempo in those games and while against Swansea, ideally the Reds should have gone for the kill, but one has to understand the Swans played much better in the second half. And I wrote earlier here, sometimes you have to give credit where it is due. It could be down to the attitude as well but it is something natural that happens often in the game.

So, Liverpool fans, nothing to worry about…
