Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tom Huddlestone is more-or-less certain to leave the North London club this summer, and going by the reports, he could play under Paolo Di Canio next season at Sunderland.
Di Canio is thought to be a keen admirer of the midfielder, and according to reports from the Sunderland Echo, is willing to bring the player to the Stadium of Light for around £5million mark, as he looks to rebuild his squad ahead of the new season.
Sunderland have sold Simon Mignolet to Liverpool few days back for £9million and Di Canio wants to invest that money into other areas of the squad.
The 26-year-old understands that first team opportunities are very limited for him at Spurs and feels the time is probably right for him to make a move elsewhere.
Last season, he made 29 appearances for the club and could have played more, as he was completely free from injuries, but his other team members were preferred ahead of him. He said:
“At times you think you might need to move.
“I am 26 now and missed a year to 18 months through injury.
“You just want to play every game and if that opportunity is not at Tottenham, then I will have to look elsewhere.”
Hull City manager and former Black Cat boss, Steve Bruce is equally interested in the player and is hoping to gazump the deal.
Fulham had expressed an interest in him and even tried to sign him in the last January transfer window but Spurs were reluctant to sell then because of injury to the Brazilian midfielder Sandro.
It was thought that Martin Jol will come back again for the player, whom he signed in 2005 during his time as a Spurs manager, but it seems like their interest for the player has cooled off.
