The Luis Suarez saga has taken all sorts of twists and turns in the summer, but the news of him ready to perform an amazing U-turn and stay at Liverpool, is simply massive, if you’re a Reds fan.
Having seen all his escape tricks fail, amidst Liverpool’s steadfast stance of not allowing him a move, further portraying him as a villain, Suarez, who has been itching to call it a day with the club, is planning to abandon such thoughts for now and even sign a contract extension, as per reports from Uruguay.
He tweeted: “Luis Suarez confirms to me he will not leave Liverpool. The support of the fans has influenced his decision.”
“Suarez see it as likely that he’ll sign a renewal (extension) to the contract that binds him to Liverpool.”
The news would come as the final nail in the coffin for Arsenal, as the Gunners were still in the hope that a deal could be struck, despite Liverpool owner John Henry and manager Brendan Rodgers’ tireless insistence that the player will not be sold to any club in the summer.
The Gunners have had two bids rejected for the Uruguayan, with their latest offer of over £40 million plus £1 thought to have triggered his release clause, but Liverpool’s interpretation of the clause says it merely allows them to inform the player and under no circumstances are they obliged to sell him.
The matter reared its ugly head when Suarez gave an interview to Guardian claiming with conviction of a release clause in his contract and urged the club to let him leave. The club has not only refuted such claims, but with a helping hand from PFA Chief Gordon Taylor, have pushed Suarez back to the wall, as he was told to train away from the squad and further chastened him on the moral precept of loyalty.
It is understood that Arsenal would now shift to plan B, and resurrect their interest in either of Swansea City’s Michu or Edin Dzeko of Manchester City.
