Back in 2014, PSG striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic said that he would never join the Premier League. Two years later, he confirms that he has offers from top Premier League clubs on table, and that he is open to move to England after the end of the season.
The 34-year-old enjoyed four wonderful seasons at PSG, but has decided to leave the French club in the summer. His contract with PSG expires at the end of the season, and he will be available for hire on a free transfer.
Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal have all reportedly shown an interest in signing the Swede striker who has scored 36 goals in all competitions this season. Arsene Wenger, however, has denied an interest, claiming the striker is currently not in his plans.
Speaking ahead of Sweden’s friendly match at home to Czech Republic on Tuesday, Zlatan said:
“Yes, there is interest from the Premier League — I can confirm that.”
He spoke highly about the quality of the league, saying it is “the league in the world all people and fans speak about.” However, he also insisted that he is in no hurry at the moment to move to a new club, and will assess all the options before taking a decision.
“I’m not having any discussions regarding this at the moment. I will not lie to you, Mino [Raiola], my agent, handles everything regarding my future right now” he added as quoted by The Guardian.
“I am playing football and he is focusing on that. Then, in the summer, we will look at all the options. I have a contract until the end of June, when contracts normally run out. And I believe I have a lot of options. A lot of big things will happen this summer.”
Although he hasn’t revealed the name of any particular club of his interest, but reports suggest that Manchester United are leading the race for his signature. The Red Devils reportedly have offered Ibrahimovic a two-year deal worth £24m, and there are strong suggestions that Zlatan may prefer a move to Old Trafford, should Jose Mourinho takes charge at the club in the summer.
Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata when asked to comment about Zlatan’s decision to join the Premier League has said that he would love to play with the Swede international.
“Obviously he is a very good player and I like to play with very good players,” said Mata as quoted by Sky Sports.
“I don’t decide that. He decides that and the club decides that, but I think every player would be happy to play with him.”
Zlatan started his career with Malmo, and has played for Ajax, Inter, Juventus, Barcelona, AC Milan and PSG. He has won league title with every club he has played for in his career, and recently won his fourth consecutive Ligue 1 title with PSG.
