Valencia based TV director/producer Nacho Cotino tweeted that Manchester United are set to complete the signing of Nicolas Otamendi from Valencia.
The 27 year old Argentine has been one of the best centre backs in the world since last season and has been linked with a move to Old Trafford all summer.
United’s need for a centre back is no secret and Van Gaal is keen to splash the cash on a marquee signing after the departure of Angel Di Maria.
It is believed that Valencia are holding out for fee of £36m for Otamendi and will not budge on their asking price.
TV director, Nacho Cotino claimed that he has proof of ‘legal tax based move in the last few hours’, regarding Otamendi.
Manchester United spent all summer chasing the Real Madrid defender, Sergio Ramos, who has now decided to renew his contract with Real Madrid for the next 5 years.
Van Gaal has identified Otamendi as his prime target now and will press ahead with the transfer in the coming days. United are also expected to wrap up the signing of Barcelona forward, Pedro, who scored the winner in his farewell appearance against Sevilla, in the super cup.
Otamendi would certainly be a shrewd signing for Manchester United. The Argentine will not only improve their defence, but would also bring in some leadership qualities into the dressing room.
Furthermore, he could form a formidable partnership with compatriot Marcos Rojo, who is used to playing with him for the national team.
