Transfer Rumors (14 Jan 09): Manchester City in for trio, Tottenham try to tempt Inter over Adriano, Liverpool in for West Ham loan star, and more

Trading one of the best clubs in the world for a relegation battle? That’s what the papers think one of the world’s best could do in the near future, but I’m not sure if your sentiments will be the same in regards to the speculation in the spotlight in today’s roundup of transfer news and rumors.

England

Yesterday, I reported that Manchester City were sending representatives to try to hammer out a deal for Kaka. Today, the Daily Mail says that AC Milan will accept City’s £100m offer for the Brazilian star, but the man himself has already poured a bucket of ice on the speculation (Sky Sports).

Analysis: The talk about his potential salary amuses me. He certainly deserves to be paid a boatload of money, but the last person that needs it or will make it a personal priority is Kaka.

City are also ready to increase their bid for Gianluigi Buffon to €100m. (Goal.com)

Analysis: The chances of this one happening have already been knocked back for the time being, and even though €100m would do a lot for Juve, it’s an offer that might not receive much consideration.

Meanwhile, in other cheaper but not necessarily available targets, City have upped their offer for Craig Bellamy to £10m. (The Mirror)

Analysis: Little by little, they’re raising their offer, but they might need to make some haste with this one if they really want it to happen.

Harry Redknapp watched Inter Milan striker Adriano in Inter’s Coppa Italia tie against Genoa on Tuesday night, with the Brazilian missing a first-half penalty and scoring a second-half goal in Inter’s 3-1 win. Redknapp could offer either Gareth Bale (The Mirror) or Jermaine Jenas (Daily Mail) to Inter in exchange.

Analysis: Adriano’s agent has already come out and said that he’ll be staying at Inter, so this one might be over with before it even gets started.

Liverpool could try to strike a permanent deal with Toulouse for left back Herita Ilunga, who has impressed on his loan spell at West Ham. (The Mirror)

Analysis: It wouldn’t be nice on their part to do that to West Ham, but Ilunga could help solve their issues at left back. That or bringing back John Arne Riise.

Everton’s latest target in their search to find a new striker on the cheap is Israeli striker Elyaniv Barda, who plays for Belgian side Racing Genk. (The Mirror)

Analysis: Barda’s price is appealing, and so is his goals total from last season. He has European and international experience as well, so he could be a good signing for Everton.

Middlesbrough are set to make a move for Burnley winger Chris Eagles. (The Mirror)

Analysis: Eagles has quickly repaid the fee that Burnley spent to sign him from Manchester United in the summer, and with the Clarets chasing Premier League promotion, any suitors will likely have to wait.

Bolton are set to tie up a deal for Denilson after the well-traveled Brazilian made an impression during a trial spell. (Daily Mail)

Analysis: Low risk, high reward. You never know what you’re going to get out of this guy, but if he is in shape and focused, this could work out very well for Bolton.

France

Marseille claim that Didier Drogba recently contacted his old club about returning on loan. (The Mirror)

Analysis: A split looks like the best idea for both parties at this point. Going back to Marseille would be taking a step back, but they’d take him back in a heartbeat.

Newcastle’s Charles N’Zogbia would welcome a move to Lyon if a concrete offer came in. (Sky Sports).

Analysis: N’Zogbia can’t leave Newcastle quickly enough, but he might have to keep on dreaming, because for some reason, Joe Kinnear is just fine holding on to him.
