Following Manchester City’s capitulation in the second half of this season, a widescale revamp of the playing squad is expected this summer.
One of the issues that the current Premier League champions have is a lack of homegrown players, with their array of stars originating from the four corners of the globe.
As such, the Citizens have been linked with the likes of Aaron Cresswell, Ross Barkley, Raheem Sterling and a host of other English players to bolster their homegrown contingent.
The latest rumbling in the British press states that Manuel Pellegrini’s side are weighing up a summer move for Tottenham’s Danny Rose.
The Mirror claim that the Etihad Stadium side are willing to part company with £10 million to land the left-back ahead of next season.
Rose has had contrasting fortunes during his time at White Hart Lane, with highs and lows over the years.
Initially brought to the club from Leeds as a winger, the versatile wideman will be forever remembered by Spurs fans for his long-range screamer against North London rivals Arsenal – in his Premier League debut no less.
In recent years Rose has been transformed into a left-back, with some teething problems as the 24-year-old gets to grips with a new position.
However, despite Spurs’ defence being far from watertight in recent months, the Doncaster-born full-back has been one of the better performers for Mauricio Pochettino’s men of late.
As such, with City reportedly in wait and 10 million on the table, should Spurs sell Rose?
Yes
Although Rose’s performances have admittedly been much improved over the course of the last two months, there is a widespread feeling that the 24-year-old is not a defender.
Lapses in concentration and positional naivety have cost Spurs a fair share of goals over the years, with Rose still seemingly capable of a substantial mistake at any moment.
With the opportunity to play him in a more natural midfield berth blocked by the presence of others, it appears that Rose is the best of bad options at left-back currently rather than a player that Tottenham can trust completely.
Spurs will undoubtedly be active in the transfer market this summer and could well look to sign an established and experienced left-back; someone like Fabio Coentrao, who is out-of-favour at Real Madrid, would fit the bill.
With Daniel Levy sure to be able to push the price up on Rose given that he has a long-term deal at White Hart Lane, is young and English, Spurs could make a canny financial boost by offloading him.

Although there are still question marks over Rose’s defensive abilities, the former Leeds man is a tenacious tackler and has been improving of late.
With every chance that the defender can improve further, Spurs will want to see just how good Rose can become given more first-team action.
Gareth Bale was initially a flop at Spurs before evolving into the world’s most expensive player; although the chances of Rose doing the same are minimal, his raw talent, especially going forward, could be a key element for Pochettino’s men going forward.
As Tottenham look to place an emphasis on a young English core, selling a player that they have invested significant time and effort into could also send out the wrong message.
£10 million is also not a fee substantial enough for Spurs to sell a first-team player and as such City would need to increase their potential offer to convince Tottenham to even consider selling Rose.
