Tottenham Hotspur are in advanced talks to sign Atalanta defender Cristian Romero, according to football.london.
The report also claims Spurs are negotiating to sign goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini from the same Serie A club.
Spurs want to bolster their defence this summer, with the club keen to bring in a new centre-back to boost Nuno Espirito Santo’s team.
They have been heavily linked with several defenders this summer, with Lyon’s Joachim Andersen and Sevilla’s Jules Kounde amongst the players targeted.
However, Spurs are now looking to broker a deal for Romero, a player director of football Fabio Paratici signed previously for Juventus from Genoa in 2019.
The 23-year-old signed a two-year loan deal with Atalanta last September, and they have the option to buy him for €16 million (£13.8m).
Atalanta will exercise their option to sign the Argentine defender. However, Paratici is now negotiating with the Italian club to sell him for a generous profit.
Romero played a key part for Atalanta last season and recently won Copa America with Argentina, who defeated Brazil in the final.
Toby Alderweireld has informed Spurs that he wants to leave this summer. The futures of Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez are also far from certain.
Romero is a leader at the back, and his versatility would boost Nuno’s side.
Spurs are also looking to sign a new goalkeeper and are in advanced talks to sign Gollini ahead of the new Premier League season.
