Manchester United wanted to sign him at the end of the summer transfer window. The Red Devils have had a bid rejected and the move failed to materialise in the end.

According to reports from ESPN, Manchester United will try their luck again in January, and are planning a fresh move for the Southampton forward. He is Sadio Mane.

The 23-year-old joined Southampton from Red Bull Salzburg in the summer of 2014 and has quickly established himself as one of the key players in the side.

If the reports are to be believed, London giants Chelsea are also reportedly interested in signing the Senegal forward.

However, United hold a genuine interest in Mane and will make a formal move for him when the transfer window re-opens in January.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has addressed the need to sign few players in the January transfer window. The Dutchman’s first priority is to sign a left back, but he would also welcome the idea of bolstering the forward department.

With Wayne Rooney hasn’t quite fired all cylinders yet, and Anthony Martial mainly seen as a prospect for the future, it’s clear why Van Gaal will ask for an established Premier League forward to his squad.

Mane scored 10 goals in 26 appearances last season, and has already netted six goals in all competitions this term.

Southampton rate him highly and are keen to keep him at the club. The Saints are looking to tie him down with a fat contract to fend off interest from other rival Premier League clubs.

According to transfermarkt, Mane has a market value of €18m. However, expect Southampton to demand anything over €25m (if they at all sell him) for the forward, who has a contract till 2018.
