Chelsea have been showing a lot of interest in young Augsburg defender Abdul Rahman Baba for a while. Back in May, French newspaper L’Equipe reported that Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho had been keeping a close eye on the youngster, who would cost around €15m.

The 20-year-old has made 27 appearances for Augsburg last season and many consider him in Germany as last year’s ‘revelation of the season’.

The player’s agent recently admitted that several European clubs are vying for Baba’s signature, however, any interested parties would have to pay around 18-20m.

Although his agent didn’t mention any club, but widespread reports suggest Chelsea and AS Roma are the clubs mainly interested in signing him.

It seems like Roma are serious about getting him and the Serie A club have already started negotiating with the German club over any possible transfer. The Gialorrossi have sent a lawyer representing the club, and he was in a meeting in Augsburg negotiating the deal, thought to be in the region of €20m.

The defender has also expressed his desire to play for Roma. Unless, Chelsea make any counter move and offer better pay package, it seems like the youngster will be playing for Roma next season.
