According to reports from Rome based Italian newspaper Il Messaggero, Roma could be forced to sell two of their influential midfielders Miralem Pjanic and Radja Nainggolan in the upcoming summer transfer window in order to comply with the Financial Fair Play regulations.
The Italian capital side were hit with a €6m fine last week and UEFA has reduced their squad size for next season’s Champions League campaign from 25 players to 22 should they qualify for Europe’s elite club competition. The Daily Express reveals that Roma must now avoid losses of more than €30m over the next two years.
It would mean that manager Rudi Garcia will want to to cash in on his star players as a result in the coming summer transfer window. Both Pjanic and Nainggolan have been earlier linked with Liverpool as a possible replacement for outgoing captain Steven Gerrard. However, the Reds have failed to qualify for next season’s Champions League as a result will fail to attract either of two midfielders.
United too have been linked with the duo and after almost having secured a Champions League playoff berth for the coming campaign, Louis Van Gaal is expected to be handed a massive £150m transfer kitty. The Red Devils are sure to bring in quality additions and will aim for the Premier League title next season.
The report states that Pjanic is valued at £37m, while Nainggolan will be allowed to depart for £29m once Roma hand over £12m to Cagliari, who have a 50 per cent stake in the Belgium international.
