ESPN have reported that Qatari league champions Lekhwiya have denied that Robin van Persie is set to leave Manchester United for a lucrative move in the upcoming summer transfer window. The 31 year old has struggled with niggling injuries having scored just 10 goals this season.
There were claims that Lekhwiya manager Michael Laudrup wanted to sign Van Persie but the club’s general secretary Adnan Ali insisted they have no plans to bid for the Dutchman. Al Ali told Doha Stadium Plus, “There’s no truth in the news. I don’t know whose creation is that.”
Van Persie is currently on £240,000-a-week wages and the player has entered in the final year of his current contract, thus there are speculations over his future at the Old Trafford side. ESPN reported that United manager Louis van Gaal held meetings with players over the weekend to inform them if they are part of his plans for next season. However, it is unclear whether Van Persie will stay or will be sold in the summer.
