Celtic and Brighton have been linked with a move for Theo Bongonda, but he is expected to stay in Belgium.
According to reports from Belgian media outlet DH, the Bhoys were heavily interested in the Zulte Waregem winger, but it looks like he is heading towards Genk instead.
The report claims that Bongonda’s move to Genk should be completed within the next few days, which means Celtic will have to look for options elsewhere.
There have been interests from Hertha Berlin, Mainz, and Rennes but the former Celta Vigo winger has decided to continue his career in Belgium.
The 23-year-old has enjoyed a fantastic 2018-19 campaign, scoring 14 goals and providing 14 assists. He would have been a brilliant signing for Celtic, but it seems Bongonda will remain in the Belgian league with a €7m (just over £6m) price touted for him.
Bongonda joined his current side from Celta Vigo for £1.7m last January, but it seems he is extremely likely to join Genk over the summer.
