Celtic are reportedly showing keen interest in Atletico Madrid winger Rodrigo Riquelme.
According to reports from The Athletic, the Bhoys have made a major shift in their transfer policy in recent years.
In order to compete at the highest level, and especially in European competitions, the Scottish champions are looking to sign young talents at a relatively low cost from England as also from foreign countries.
The Hoops have taken keen interest in scouting players from various La Liga academies and the B teams of heavyweight Spanish clubs.
They believe it could prove just as fruitful a recruitment pool as English academies.
The report claims that Celtic have made enquiries to Atletico Madrid about 20-year-old winger Riquelme. The club are also monitoring some of the Barcelona B players.
Riquelme has impressed for Atletico’s B team this season, managing five goals and two assists in 21 appearances. He has further scored two goals and produced four assists in seven UEFA Youth League appearances.
Interestingly, Celtic can sign him for a bargain deal. He has a contract at the club till 2020 and would be a free agent if he doesn’t sign a new extension.
Riquelme looks a promising young talent, and could be a smart signing for the club.
