Real Madrid star Raphael Varane’s frustrations with being largely overlooked in Carlo Ancelotti’s side has prompted an angry response that he is still happy at the Spanish giants.
However, it remains to be seen how long the French defender will put up with being second fiddle at the club after earning rave reviews, including from his former boss Jose Mourinho, who has gone on record as saying he believes the player will be the best defender in the world.
The 21-year-old has only made 11 starts in La Liga with Pepe and Sergio Ramos preferred in central defence, leaving the player irritated at his lack of game time. And despite signing a new deal in the summer it has even left him questioning his Madrid future, according to some reports.
With Chelsea looking for a long term replacement to John Terry, who has yet to be offered a new extension to his contract for next season, and Manchester United in the frame for a centre-back, Varane is being tipped to make the move to the Premier League.
The player, though, is maintaining a diplomatic stance with him saying he is happy to compete with Pepe for a place in the side.
But with United and Chelsea looking for top quality centre-backs, Varane may decide to cut ties with Real if his situation does not improve before the end of the season and head to England.
