The Daily Mirror is reporting that the Ligue 1 champions see Dele Alli as a special talent and could make a move for the player in the summer, having scouted him over the last two seasons.
PSG, who are suffering a terrible week in both their domestic league and in Europe, will be looking to make at least one marquee signing next summer — which could quite possibly be Alli!
The club’s ultimate goal, under the ownership of Qatari businessman Nasser Al Khelaifi, is to one day win the Champions League, but that appears a long way off, now.
The French side have failed to get any further than the quarter finals in Europe’s premiere club competition, since Al Khelaifi’s takeover in 2011. Last season, they fell to Manchester City at the last 8 stage.
Why are PSG so interested in Alli?
PSG rate Alli highly and could swoop, should Tottenham fail to qualify for the Champions League next season. It is believed that they could be willing to pay up to £50m for the star’s services. However, Real Madrid could provide competition, with the European champions keeping a keen eye on Alli’s progress, as well.
The Mirror also reports that PSG watched the England international extensively at the end of last season, and have sent out scouts to watch him on this campaign, too. Those at the club believe he has a special talent and could make Alli an offer that handsomely improves on the £60,000-a-week he currently earns at Spurs.
In fact, the North London club’s chairman, Daniel Levy, has received criticism for his reluctance to reward Spurs’ best players with large contracts in the past. Christian Eriksen signed a new deal that saw his wages rise to £80,000 per week earlier in the season. In modern football terms, that’s chump change. Furthermore, others feel that Harry Kane’s new £90,000-a-week contract (if reports are to be believed) with achievable bonuses, is not enough.
Alli has been a massive revelation for Spurs, who signed the midfielder from MK Dons for just £5m in February 2015. If PSG make a bid in the region of £50m, as is being rumoured, then Tottenham would have the opportunity to make a large profit. However, they are unlikely to be willing to sell, with the 20-year-old featuring at the heart of the club’s plans, as they look to build a youthful side for the future.
