Newcastle United star Ayoze Perez has admitted that he is delighted with the recent reports linking him with a move to Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, but suggests that he is happy at the Tyneside club.
The 22-year-old has been linked with a move top Premier League clubs as The Telegraph suggests Louis van Gaal is planning an approach for Perez in January. In addition to this, north London clubs Arsenal and Tottenham are also in the race for the frontman.
The Spaniard scored a late winner for the Magpies in their 2-1 victory over Tottenham at White Hart Lane. He has already scored four goals and United, along with both Spurs and Arsenal are short of options up front and planning a move for Perez and the player is happy to be linked with the top clubs from England.
“I just know the same as you. What I hear, what I read… It is a great pleasure for me [to be linked with Tottenham and United]. It is incredible, something very big and that’s because I’m doing well but I must go on. It’s my job,” Perez told IBTimes UK.
“You never know. Football takes many turns. Today in fact I am a substitute [at Newcastle]. I am working hard to be in the manager’s starting plans. That’s all I think: to work. Then the fruits arrive. I am very happy at Newcastle. They gave me everything, they made me professional. I want to continue working with them, trying to climb on the table and then whatever have to happens will happen.”
United have Anthony Martial and Wayne Rooney as the recognised strikers in the squad following James Wilson departure to Brighton and Hove Albion on loan for the remainder of the season.
Rooney is sidelined with an injury and that leaves Van Gaal with Martial as the only option up front. Meanwhile, Theo Walcott returned from a lengthy spell on the sidelines, which left Arsene Wenger with Olivier Giroud as the only striker, with Danny Welbeck out before the start of the season.
Tottenham have Harry Kane and Son Heung-min as the two players and that has left them with short of options in the strike position in all competitions. A move for Perez for either of the clubs, United, Tottenham and Arsenal would be an ideal option as all three clubs are looking to bring in reinforcements, especially for the Red Devils, who are struggling for goals this season.
