Manchester United supporters were forced to take down a banner that mocked Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard during United’s 3-0 victory over their arch rivals.
The banner shows the silhouette of a kneeling Gerrard, moments after the Ba slip, under the slogan, ‘Au Revoir Gerrard, Come Back When You’ve Won One.’
It was a parody of a similar banner unfurled at Anfield in 1993, when Liverpool fans taunted Eric Cantona “Au Revoir Cantona and Man United, Come Back When You’ve Won 18!”
According to The Telegraph’s Mark Ogden, the banner was taken down by Old Trafford stewards within seconds of it being unfurled due to health and safety regulations which prevent the use of banners over a certain size.
A United spokesperson said: “Any banner over a certain size would need a fire certificate. This banner would have contravened the ground regulations.”
