Manchester City, one of the title contenders this season, are planning to bolster their squad next summer and are keen interested in Porto’s defensive midfielder Fernando, who is also a reported target of Manchester United and Liverpool.
City manager Manuel Pellegrini is looking to find a defensive midfielder to bolster his squad and are lining up several options like Newcastle’s Cheick Tiote and Southampton’s Victor Wanyama.
During the January transfer window, several Premier League clubs were interested in the midfielder. Both Liverpool and Manchester United showed interest in the 26-year-old, whose contract will expire after the end of the season.
The midfielder joined Porto in 2007, was a key member of Andre Villas-Boas’ side that won the treble in 2010-11.
The Times reported back in January that City were not only interested in signing him but were looking favourites to beat other rivals as well, with the player is understood to favour the Blue half of Manchester.
Now the Daily Mail reports that Fernando is still in the sights of City, though Pellegrini is considering other options as well. Javi Garcia has shown progress in recent matches this season, but City are looking for greater quality and consistency.
