German goalkeeper Loris Karius has now completed his transfer to Liverpool.
The 22 year old Mainz keeper was linked with a move away from Bundesliga over the last few weeks and yesterday there were reports that the player is already in UK for his Liverpool medical.
Liverpool have now confirmed on their official website that the player has completed his transfer.
Liverpool’s need for a keeper is no secret. The Reds have often been undone by Mignolet’s error prone performances over the last two seasons and Karius is expected to replace the Belgian as Liverpool’s first choice keeper.
Karius is Klopp’s third Liverpool signing after Marko Grujic and Joel Matip.
The player cost Liverpool £4.7m and will wear the number one shirt.
Klopp said: “I am delighted we have signed Loris, he has had a fantastic season with Mainz and has developed into a very good goalkeeper since his return to Germany.”
“I am really pleased that we were able to move so quickly to get him and that Loris has shown such a desire to come to Liverpool with a lot of other clubs interested in him.”
“I know he will add to the quality we have in this position and I look forward to working with him and all our players when we return for pre-season.”
Considering his age and talent, that is fantastic business from Liverpool. Karius is one of the most talented young German players and could be a major asset for Liverpool if they can develop him well.
