It seems like the injury-curse is going to leave Manchester United any time sooner – be it within the squad or players abroad. For instance, Nani, who is technically still a Manchester United player and undoubtedly the best performing United player throughout Europe, has picked up a thigh injury and could miss the crucial Champions League tie against Chelsea.
Nani joined Sporting Lisbon on a season long loan this summer, in a part-exchange deal that saw United signing Argentine defender Marcos Rojo.
Upon returning back to his home town club, where he is loved by the fans, Nani has produced string of outstanding performances, and is slowly getting back to his old best.
He has hit the ground running at his old club and netted six goals and provided six assists as well. As a result of his strong performances, he has been nominated for Sporting Lisbon’s Footballer of the Year award, after only playing 15 matches.
There were rumours that Louis van Gaal wants to bring him back at Old Trafford in January, but James Ducker of The Times wrote yesterday that Nani could be sold in summer, should United find a potential buyer.
[polldaddy poll=8503493]Sporting’s coach Marco Silva revealed about the injury although he claims that he doesn’t know how serious it could be.
“Let’s see … [Nani] complained of the thigh, we see the results of revaluation and then try to understand what is the injury,” said coach to “Sport TV”.
Nani injured his right thigh in Sporting’s home win of Boavista. Sporting are second in the Group G table with 7 points, and need a victory in their last Champions League tie against the Blues to progress to the knock-out rounds, although a draw or defeat for Schalke 04 would be enough to seal their progress.
