Déjà vu. Remember last summer? Liverpool were heavily linked with a move for Willian and out-of-no-where Chelsea emerged and hijacked the deal.
We are close to witnessing yet another similar story.
Liverpool were linked with Mohamed Salah for some time now. Even former Egyptian player Mido claimed earlier this month that the 21-year-old winger is close to joining the Reds. At one point of time it felt like it was just a question of when.
But, then again, anything can happen in a transfer window. It is that unpredictable.
Yesterday, we reported, taking source as Egyptian media that Liverpool have more-or-less agreed a deal to sign the Egyptian winger.
Hours later, Gianluca Di Marzio reported that Chelsea have joined the race too, as the Blues see him as a potential replacement of Juan Mata, who is on the brink of joining Manchester United.
Now, the Liverpool Echo reports that the Reds are set to miss out on Salah, while the player is on the verge of joining Chelsea.
Liverpool value the player around £8m but Basel are asking almost double that amount. Chelsea fuelled by the sale of Juan Mata for £37m has informed Basel that they are willing to pay that money, while the Echo says Liverpool have no intention of matching that bid.
