Manchester United are plotting an audacious move for the Atlético Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann.
The Premier League giants want the French international to replace their captain Wayne Rooney. The England striker has been in a downward spiral over the last few seasons.
Griezmann has been linked with a move to the Premier League over the last few months and the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea are thought to be interested. Daily Mirror are claiming that Manchester United are aware that they will have to fight Chelsea if they want to land the La Liga star.
Mirror are reporting that Ed Woodward has held talks about a potential transfer and United are serious about landing the 25-year-old who is valued at around £80 million.
There is no doubt that Manchester United need to sign another attacker and someone like Griezmann would be perfect for them. The Atlético forward is versatile and can operate in a number of positions. Signing him would allow Mourinho to be more flexible with his attack without having to sacrifice the likes of Martial and Ibrahimovic.
Mirror are also claiming that Mourinho does not see Rooney as a part of his long-term plans at Old Trafford and will allow the player to leave for China or USA once Griezmann arrives.
If Manchester United can qualify for the Champions League this season, there is no reason why they cannot sign the French star next summer. They have the financial means to pull off a deal like that.
Greizmann has scored 6 goals in 7 La Liga appearances for Atlético Madrid this season.
