Manchester United have been handed a major transfer boost after Chelsea decided to pull out of the race for Everton defender John Stones.
The young England defender was a top target for both Premier League clubs but the arrival of Antonio Conte has changed things for Chelsea. The former Juventus manager is keen on signing Leonardo Bonucci instead.
Jose Mourinho is an admirer of the Everton defender and tried to sign him during his time at Chelsea.
The Premier League giants failed to convince Everton despite offering huge sums of money, more than once.
Mourinho is expected to take over from Louis Van Gaal at the end of this season and will reignite his interest in John Stones once again. The Red Devils are in desperate need of another centre back and Stones could be a long term solution for them.
The Everton defender is one of the finest young talents in the world right now and would be an outstanding addition to any Premier League side.
Although Everton were reluctant to lose their key player in January, a considerable offer in the summer could be hard to turn down.
Furthermore, Stones has previously tried to force a move away from Everton and if he does that again this summer, it is perhaps best for the Merseysiders to let him go.
