Manchester United are considering making a move for Croatian midfielder, Ivan Perišić, in the January transfer window. The 27-year-old has a contract with Inter Milan till 2020, but United are looking to test Inter’s resolve with an official bid this month.
Perišić signed for Inter Milan from Wolfsburg on a five-year contract for a transfer fee of €20m on August, 2015. In his first season at Inter, he scored seven league goals in 34 Serie A games, and this season has scored six in 18 games already.
The 27-year-old midfielder made his debut for Croatia in 2011, and has played 55 games for his country till date. Perišić was Croatia’s top goalscorer in Euro 2016 qualifiers, scoring six goals in nine matches, as Ante Čačić’s side qualified occupying second place in their group H.
According to reports from Calciomercato, Perišić’s agent is trying to push for a contract extension, but Inter are in no hurry to hand him a new deal. However, they could be forced to do so, as several heavyweight European clubs are vying for his signature.
United are looking to make an official move for Perišić soon (read as during the January transfer window) as Mourinho appreciates the ‘tactical flexibility’ of the player. The Red Devils, however, could face strong competition from Liverpool and Tottenham.
Perišić generally plays as a winger, but he is versatile enough to play as an attacking midfielder or second striker. Both United and Liverpool are stocked with quality attacking midfielders, but Perišić would still represent a quality addition for either of them.
