Manchester United scouts were present at Athletic Bilbao’s La Liga match against Valencia, where they watched Bilbao’s central midfielder Ander Herrera, according to Super Deporte.
The Valencia based newspaper claims that scouts from Manchester United watched Herrera, who David Moyes reportedly failed to sign in the summer.
Many expected that Manchester United would go for him again in the January transfer window, but Moyes spent heavily on Juan Mata instead.
Herrara, who has a release clause of £31m, started the season a little poorly, but did put in an impressive performance against Valencia, which would have impressed the Manchester United scouts who were watching from the stands.
The report says that Manchester United scouts were also there to see Valencia’s left back Juan Bernat. The 21-year-old has impressed for Los Che this season and could be an interesting candidate to replace the long serving Patrice Evra.
Evra will be out of contract in the summer and with no fresh contract offer in place as yet, the Frenchman could well follow Nemanja Vidic out of Old Trafford.
